(plural ossa praeorbitalia))
preorbital (the usually large bone lying anterior and slightly ventral to the eye. Also known as the lachrymal or first suborbital. The preorbital is the first of the circumorbital series. In Lepisosteus comprises 6-8 ossicles, joined by teeth and forming the border of the upper jaw. Also refers to the area anterior to or below the eye)
